We all know that cleaning the fruits and vegetables we consume is important but are you doing it wrong? I am almost certain you are!
I am also certain that you want to stay as far away as possible from food poisoning and other harmful things that might happen to your health when consuming dirty fruits and vegetables!
Here is how to properly clean fruits and vegetables!
I recommend you make your own “cleaner” which you can store in a spray bottle and pull out whenever you want to clean fruits and vegetables. I know that you probably think that a simple wash under running water in enough but trust me – it is not!
Taking additional steps to deep clean them is important. I have been making this DIY fruits and vegetables spray cleaner for a few years and all I can say is that it has changed my life!
How to make it? You need to mix 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
I know you probably thought that I will include some type of a harsh cleaning ingredient but we will be cleaning our fruits and vegetables – not out home so it’s not necessary!
How to use it? Simply spray the fruit or vegetable you will use, let it sit for a minute or two then rinse well.
How to clean lettuce?
If you want to prepare lettuce or any other leaf vegetable then the spray wouldn’t be such a great option.
Instead, you would want to soak the leaf vegetables in a bowl full of water, 4 tablespoons of salt, and the juice of half a lemon.
You can also replace the lemon juice with vinegar if you want!
Let them soak for 2-3 minutes then rinse well!
